Saturday, April 30th, 2022 marked the fourth annual National Professional Angler Association (NPAA) Future Angler Foundation (FAF) Youth and Family Fishing Clinic at Vison Bank in Fargo, ND. The event was hosted by Yamaha Pro Angler Spencer Deutz.
Nineteen future anglers were greeted inside Vision Bank and given refreshments and doughnuts courtesy of Vision Bank. After they settled in, Deutz provided an interactive seminar where the participants learned fish identification, water safety, places to fish depending on the season, selective harvest, the proper measurement of fish and how to stop the spread of aquatic nuisance species.
Following the seminar, the future anglers split up into four groups. Typically, the participants would head outdoors but due to the rain, the clinic stayed inside. The groups rotated through stations where they had the chance to view minnows through an underwater camera. As they continued the clinic, the learned boat safety, knot tying and how to identify zebra mussels. The future anglers also went through a coloring station where Spencer introduced Project Tikka Minno!
Project Tikka Mino is sponsored by Clam Outdoors and Renegade Outdoor Innovations. The Tikka Mino is a one-piece, jigging minnow that is an industry first for Clam Pro Tackel. It is designed for vertical presentation to rip fish through the ice or open water. This project allows each youth participant to design their own Tikka Mino on a blank coloring page. At the end of the year, Spencer will choose 10 winners and Renegade Outdoor Innovations will custom paint a Tikka Mino that is an exact match to their drawing!
Each participant was given a rod/reel combination and a future angler shirt courtesy of the (NPAA) (FAF).
Deutz, the NPAA, and the FAF would like to thank Vision Bank for granting use of their facilities to host this event. Since 2010, Deutz has hosted over 80 clinics and believes he can make a significant impact on the sport through education and outreach.
