New Anglers Become Winners at “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!” Keys University Oct. 18-20, 2019

Forestville, WI: More than 50 aspiring anglers came from Florida as well as other states to learn from the pros at the award winning “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!®” Keys University, October 18-20 at the Elks Lodge, Tavernier, FL.

The University kicked off on Friday with a meet-and-greet social featuring networking, fundraisers and an incredible Master Chef Appetizer Contest.

Saturday’s events began with classroom presentations on offshore, bottom and inshore fishing, followed by lunch and hands-on fishing skills until 4 pm. Skills such as releasing, conservation, knot tying, bait rigging, spin, net casting, gaffing grapefruits, trailer backing and more were available for hands-on practice. The event continued with networking party with food and fun hosted by Seaside Glassworks, Islamorada, FL.

On Sunday, participants embarked on a fishing adventure out of Whale Harbor Marina, Islamorada, FL followed by a fish fillet demonstration. Fish caught or released included sailfish, mahi, wahoo, blackfin tuna, yellowtail snapper, king mackerel, mutton snapper, snook, redfish, mangrove snapper, sharks and more. On Friday was a Bonus Fishing Day.

On Sunday, awards were presented for the LLGF Fishing Fever tournament. Tournament winners were:
Top Offshore: Stacey Hammes, Berlin, NJ 13 lb. Skipjack Tuna on Capt, Kenny Spaulding Caribsea
Second Place Offshore: Andrea Munchmeyer, Tavernier, FL 12.8 lb. wahoo on Capt Rick Rodriguez Sea Horse
Top Inshore: Alecia Wengert, Greensburg, PA Redfish on Capt. Chris Hanson’s Scales 2 Tales
Second Place Inshore: Nadine Thompson, Islamorada, FL for Snook on Capt. Chris Hanson’s Scales 2 Tales
Top Party Boat: Janet Richards, Jupiter, FL 16” Red Grouper Release on Captain Michael
